What are Wood Pellets
Wood is a renewable source of energy because the carbon dioxide emitted when the wood is burned has been taken out of the atmosphere by the growing plant. Even allowing for emissions of fossil carbon dioxide in planting, harvesting, processing and transporting the fuel, replacing fossil fuel with wood fuel will typically reduce net CO2 emissions by over 90%.

All wood fuels, including wood pellets are usually made of highly compressed waste sawdust. The use of wood pellets for heating is well established in countries such as North America, Sweden, Austria and Denmark. The UK market started in 1999 with the assistance of an EU funded project 'Introducing Wood Pellet Fuel to the UK'. The project helped to establish a number of sources of UK manufactured wood pellets. The growth in the industry has encouraged wood burning technology for the domestic as well as the commercial user. These burners are commonly found in schools, colleges and new housing developments. The use of the fuel has satisfied a zero carbon foot print as well as reducing fuel costs immensely. There are a number of incentives and grants available for home owners and offices to consider changing to wood pellet fuelled heating.

There are various grades of wood pellets and this is usually reflected in the price. Bioener G Ltd ensure that our wood pellets meet not only quality standards but have strength in retaining their shape and not leaving a high volume of sawdust residue in the storage silo.

Being a source of renewable energy, wood pellets are exempt from the Climate Change Levy.
