| BioenerG welcomes the publication of the Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation consultation |

Thursday 22nd February 2007
BioenerG welcomes the publication of the Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation consultation.
This is the most important consultation that the biofuels industry will see this year and it is vital that we get it right. The Government have invested a lot of time in responding to concerns about environmental issues. The consultation lays out what the RTFO is all about, who will be obligated and how different groups will be affected. It also addresses issues for the longer term such as second generation biofuels and how the 5% level can be increased.
There will be lots of comments and scare stories by an ill informed media so BioenerG will be doing an in depth analysis of the document and our views will appear on this web site. It is also important that the industry's views are heard and we will be making our input both through bodies like the REA and directly.
The simplest change we can all make is to switch to biofuels whether that is bioethanol or biodiesel and it is up to us to demand more greener fuels. Making sure that market forces deliver this is crucial. If the RTFO works with the market then we will see a massive switch to biofuels. If it doesn't then we will see a conflict between a bureacratic response and companies who want to move the market forward. BioenerG is company that has been set up to remove the barriers to market growth which exist, solve problems and help grow the market substantially. We will be seeking to ensure that the outcome of the consultation, which closes on 17 May, will have a positive effect for renewable fuels.
Make 2007 the year that Britain that it has a successful and green future.
