| OFF TO A BAD START |
|
Aylesbury resident and Bioenerg, Demon tweeks, Ceravision backed reigning British Ford Fiesta Champion had a forgetful start the 2007 racing campaign in defence of his title.
The season opener at the Northamptonshire circuit of Silverstone was cut short in testing on the Friday due to engine troubles. The brand new car that had been built over the winter months for the 2007 season was delayed due to supplier issues and therefore Andy was unable to shake the car down prior to the official pre-event test. With less than ten laps completed the new engine expired due to one of the oil control piston rings letting oil past the piston into the combustion chamber, unfortunately a problem that would not enable Neate Sport Race Engineering to repair in time for the weekends racing.
The engine has now been returned to the engine builders and will be re-fitted shortly to enable Andy to undertake a busy testing schedule prior to rounds 3 & 4 at the new Anglesey circuit in Wales.
Andy said” Obviously Silverstone was immensely disappointing however all is not lost yet, we won the 2006 championship with four rounds to spare so there’s no reason I cannot do it again. The failure was just one of those things, potentially I believe I have a better car than last year and as I have formed a new team solely to run my car the preparation will exceed the levels I have experienced in previous years racing in the Fiesta’s… I’m extremely meticulous in the preparation of my race cars so I’m 100% confident to turn things around. I’ll be aiming for maximum points at Anglesey and cant wait”…
Mark Simmons, Managing Director of Bioener G commented “Although the engine failure was bad news, it is best to get the problems out of the way at the start. We are looking forward to a great season and will give Andy all out support in winning the championship. He is one of the best drivers I know, with a lot of potential. I know he will hold on to his championship this year.”
With 40 Fiesta’s expected at the Anglesey circuit the Championship promises to live up to the hype of being one of the most competitive one make saloon car series in the UK. |
